History

Kronwall is the younger brother and teammate of former Detroit first-rounder Niklas Kronwall. He represented Sweden at the 2002 WJC tournament. Kronwall was named to the Swedish National Team for exhibition matches against Switzerland leading up to the World Championships.
Drafted as a 20-year-old in 2002, Kronwall had a solid debut in the SEL.

2005-06: During his first season in North America, Kronwall was able to split time between the Leafs and the club’s farm club, enjoying moderate success at both levels. In the AHL, Kronwall displayed an unexpected flair for offense, racking up 11 points in 11 games before being called up to the NHL. With the Leafs, Kronwall played the steady defensively responsible game he’s more known for. In 34 games, the Swedish blueliner only registered one point, and earned a passable -3 plus/minus ranking. Returning to AHL after suffering a knee injury, Kronwall got into a handful of games late in the season and was part of the Marlies’ playoff push.

Talent Analysis

Kronwall's great size is his most obvious asset. Known mostly as a defensive defenseman, he has managed to collect a few assists early this season as well. Kronwall plays a similar game to fellow Leafs prospect Jay Harrison, and much of his success has come from his increased physical play, as evidenced by his increase in penalty minutes this season.
